Overview

True crises pose a serious threat to corporate reputation, which is a key concern of strategic public relations practice.  Delegates on this workshop will examine how risk can be minimised and crises can be pre-empted.  This is all in the context of issues management and planning for crises before they happen.

Level

This workshop is designed for account managers and account directors (and senior in-house practitioners) who wish to advise their clients and employers how to prepare for crises (as well as on how to reduce the likelihood of them happening) - and how to respond when the worst does happen.  The workshop draws extensively on classic case studies as well as relating the discussion to delegates’ context and experience.

Content

  • Issues management and the issues lifecycle
  • Types of crises and their causes
  • Planning for crises and crisis communication
  • Short-term and long-term responses
  • The internal communications context
  • The media perspective, and handling the media
  • Prevention and cure

Outcomes

Delegates who complete this course will feel confident in advising others on preparing for, and avoiding, crises.  They will also understand what actions to take if, and when, the worst does happen; particularly how to handle the media response.
